Electronic Warfare (EW) and Signals Intelligence (SIGINT)

Electronic Warfare (EW) and Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) are vital to modern military operations, offering key capabilities for information gathering, threat detection, and countermeasures. Explore our solutions to achieve enhanced awareness and implement effective electronic defence strategies.

Defining Electronic Warfare and Signals Intelligence

Electromagnetic Spectrum Operations (EMSO) are an essential domain of modern military operations. Electronic Warfare entails the use of the electromagnetic spectrum to deceive and disrupt adversaries while ensuring that allied electronic systems operate effectively and reliably. It may be broken down into three categories:

  • Electronic Support: Monitoring the spectrum and intercepting signals of interest to be analysed and stored for tactical decision-making or long-term surveillance.

  • Electronic Protection: Ensuring that friendly forces can maintain use of the electromagnetic spectrum through techniques like spread spectrum or emissions control.

  • Electronic Attack: Disrupting or denying an enemy’s access to the electromagnetic spectrum, which can be achieved through methods such as jamming, decoys, or directed energy.

Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) is closely related to EW, particularly in the area of electronic support. SIGINT systems generally offer detailed insights into enemy communications, radars, and other electronic systems. This intelligence is crucial for guiding the tactical use of the electromagnetic spectrum by EW systems.
